HISTORY of FAWN -- Friends of Animals With Needs

FAWN was founded in 1997.  Six concerned people in our community got together and decided to start a group to help animals in need in Coos County.  Regular meetings were started and the first fundraiser was a garage sale that made $600. The first feral cats trapped was a mother and her two kittens.  The mother, Dutchess, is our FAWN mascot.  She lives at Catnip Sanctuary in Coquille.  The kittens, sisters, went to live in Dora.  One sister has passed away, and the other one still lives in Dora and is quite friendly.

In the beginning, FAWN was very fragile, but with alot of help and determination, we have lasted eleven years, and will continue to helping animals in need as long as we can. FAWN will celebrate its 11th Anniversary in 2008, and is responsible for spaying/neutering over 3,000 animals to date.

FAWN IS UNIQUE

FAWN, an all-volunteer non-profit organization, spends 98% of every dollar directly on animal care.

FAWN rescues, spays/neuters,  tests, treats, and vaccinates stray and abandoned cats.

FAWN maintains 4 cat colonies with shelter, daily feeding and monitoring for health.

FAWN's new program, HELPING PAWS, financially assists people with animals in crisis as long as funds are available.

FAWN home fosters adoptable kittens and matches pets with seniors and families.

FAWN provides the public with education on feral cat management—
